Hygiene
Piercing Aftercare
– Clean the wound twice a day for 2 to 4 weeks using a pH-neutral antiseptic soap. Dilute the soap to a ratio of 50:1 to 3:1 with water, apply it to the piercing, then rinse thoroughly with cold water to prevent any irritation to the surrounding tissue.
- If scar secretions (lymph) form scabs, soften them with warm water before gently removing them with a cotton bud, taking care never to rub or use your fingernails.
– Removing these scabs before each clean helps to preserve scar tissue and avoid damaging the area.
Oral care
After a tongue or lip piercing, it is normal to experience discomfort or slight pain related to the inflammation of the mucous membranes. Here are the steps to follow:
– Use a mouthwash or antiseptic gel after each meal to maintain good hygiene.
– In case of redness or discomfort, natural anti-inflammatories like arnica can help. Suck on ice cubes for an anaesthetic effect and to reduce inflammation.
– If you smoke, rinse more frequently to limit the risk of infection.
After two weeks, replace the insertion bar with a shorter piece of jewellery, often surgical steel, to avoid damaging your teeth. This replacement is included in the price of your piercing.
